The UNO-St. Claude Gallery is pleased to announce two concurrent exhibitions, held from April 12 to May 4. Natalie McLaurin’s Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition titled, “You are a weird bird,” is comprised of her sculptures, drawings, and prints that are reflections on humans as animals. McLaurin addresses ideas about gender and disguise, power and territory, and her own identity as a woman, with pattern, plumage, costume, and color related to birds.
In addition, the gallery will host an exhibition curated by Dr. Rebecca Reynolds, Assistant Professor of Art History at The University of New Orleans. This MFA Alumni Exhibition features three alumni artists – Alex Podesta, Nina Schwanse, and Monica Zeringue – whose work investigates notions of identity formation. Their recent work will be featured alongside a selected example of their graduate study work that demonstrates the development of their conceptual interests.
The gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Ave., will hold opening receptions for these exhibits on Saturday, April 12, from 6-9 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5 p.m.
