 UNO Latin American Studies Summer Travel Grant

 

The University of New Orleans, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Latin American Studies Program strongly believe that an international educational experience should be made available to as many qualified students as possible. To this end, a limited number of financial awards for summer study in Latin America are available to UNO students who exhibit high academic achievement, whose academic plans would benefit most from this experience, and who demonstrate financial need.  These awards are for undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in a study abroad program or conducting research in Latin America.  Awards for students in study abroad/language programs are generally in the amount of $1,000.  Awards for students conducting research will vary depending on the availability of funds and the nature of the student’s project.

 

Eligibility: Applicants must be continuing full- or part-time students currently enrolled at the University of New Orleans.  A copy of the student’s current transcript, official or unofficial, must be submitted with the application.

 

Statement: The applicant must submit a one page (single-spaced) statement outlining the proposed study abroad program or research project as well as how the experience abroad will enhance his/her academic curriculum and goals (please include your name, email address, and student ID#).   This statement should include a budget outlining the costs of the trip as well as an explanation of how the scholarship will make the trip financially possible for the student. 

 

Note: This grant is not limited to students going on the UNO-Costa Rica program; however, if you are going on the UNO-Costa Rica program, we are familiar with the program and costs; tell us about why this experience and scholarship are important for you.

 

Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the application.  Please submit everything together in one envelope.
